I'm the author of Danger: Long DivisionandFinch Goes Wild.

In Danger: Long Division, Becca suddenly finds herself failing fifth grade math because she just doesn't get long division. Her friends turn mean, her dad's in Iraq, her brother's in the hospital and her mom is way too hassled to help her. Somehow, she has to find new ways to solve her problems, both in her math and in her relationships.

In Finch Goes Wild, Harmon doesn't fit into the hole he gets pushed into at middle school. With his grades at an all-time low and his weight off the charts, he knows he's headed for trouble. How can he be who he wants to be when everybody else expects him to be what he's not? When his parents decide that homeschooling is the answer, he thinks they're nuts. Then just when he wishes the whole noisy world would just disappear, he discovers a whole new world to explore in the wild places near his home.

My interactive stories, My Adventure as a Birder, My Adventure at Summer Campand, My Adventure with Arthropods, invite young readers and writers to collaborate in the creation of their own stories by adding unique details and illustrations. Using field guides and other resources to find rich and realistic details can add value to these fun enrichment activities, building on the synergy between the reading process and the writing process.

Had three delightful chats this week with students and teachers from Hoech Middle School in Missouri. It was fun to be part of their "show me" skype lesson.
