Presentations: I am the author of over 25 books for children, including award-winning titles, "THOSE SHOES" and "BEFORE YOU WERE MINE". I would be thrilled to present to children in grades K-6th, and have talks geared to each age level. For example, using "DOGERELLA", and "SLEEPING BOOTSIE", fractured fairy tales are explored with primary grade students. Story structure is broken down into achievable steps for 3rd-4th grade using "THOSE SHOES" as a reference. A middle grade book, "THE P.S. BROTHERS" is now available-- this title works well for teaching plot development to 5th-6th grade students. "HAPPY LIKE SOCCER", a new picture book from Candlewick Press will be published May, 2012.

As a former teacher, I use an interactive approach to presentations, and know the importance of keeping things moving visually. All sessions begin with a warm-up related to familiar picture books, and end with for question/answer. I have several different presentations for adult audiences as well.

Our 5th grade students in an international school in Seoul, Korea, had a fantastic time skype-ing with Maribeth Boelts. We have read her book Those Shoes in our class. We are using her story as a mentor text for our literary essay unit. It was great to be able to talk to an actual author all the way from Korea. The students loved hearing about her life as a writer, her revision process and where she got her idea for Those Shoes. They were so excited to hear that she is coming out with a new book for 5th graders called The P.S. Brothers. We will definitely be purchasing a copy for our classroom library. Thank you for visiting our classroom! We hope to talk to you again soon.
