Genres: As author of 67 award-winning books, I write about a variety of topics in a number of genres--nonfiction (preschool through adult); historical fiction; biography; history; graphic novels; healthcare; special education; parenting

Presentations: Think lively conversations that include: idea sparkers, various writing formats and genres, writing practices that work, steps to publishing a book, writing tips, and what it's like to be an author. I often focus a presentation on a specific title that may fit into your curriculum, as requested, such as Michelle Obama: From Chicago to the White House, Tooth Tales from around the World, or Annie Shapiro and the Clothing Workers Strike. I also conduct fun writing workshops using music, games, and unusual pictures as idea generators. And I love questions.

Audiences: Since I write for readers preschool through adult, I feel comfortable talking with any age and size group. My background in special education helps me tailor material to different grades, and I speak often with adult groups about breaking into writing/publishing. Any size works for me, but I find the smaller and cozier the group more participants get out of presentations.

No Cost Meet the Author Visit: 10-15 minutes, usually a Meet the Author and/or Q & A

In-Depth Visit Length: 30 to 60 minutes work best, depending upon the age of participants.

In-Depth Visit Cost: Between $200 and $400, depending upon workshop length and what you specify. Let's talk.

Prerequisites: Students usually get more out of any author presentation if they are familiar with at least one book by that person and have some idea of questions they'd like to ask.
