ASK Process of Interviewing an Author
Aug 8 2009, 9:53 PM EDT | Post edited: Aug 8 2009, 9:53 PM EDT
Greetings. I'm so glad to see this site and the resources shared! Kudos to Mona and Sarah for your hard work! I would like to share a resource that is used in Michigan for H323 videoconferencing, but would be a great format for Skype author visits as well. It kicks the quality of the interaction up a notch! The authors in MI that use this process love it. You can read about it online here: http://www.misd.net/DistanceLearning/ASK/ASKProgramOverview.htm

Basically the students read the book, journal, write good questions, pick the best questions, and then interview the author. There is a video of the process online that you can play for your students and/or in staff meetings to train on how to use the process: http://www.twice.cc/ASK/index.html

There's also a file on "Making Your ASK connection a success" that has tips for organizing: http://www.remc11.k12.mi.us/dl/ASK/Partnerships/ASKSuccess.pdf

These resources would be very helpful for teachers and authors in preparing for the Skype conference.

Wishing you all the best!

Thank you for sharing ... that is very much the process I use with my students. I would like to share your post in the directions for teachers page -- will you email me at sachauncey@gmail.com if you are OK with this.
