Would love an author to chat to our Year 4 children in Liverpool, England. I'm really trying to foster a love of reading in my class and think that this would be a way of engaging the pupils in the literature we're reading at the moment.
Many thanks,
Kate

Hi Ken, I work as a middle school librarian. I am working with one of our language arts teachers to get a poet to Skype with one or several of her classes. Are you willing to do this? Thanks!

Hello,
I am a literacy Coach at School Street Elementary School in Bradford, PA. I attended a Skype session with you at our local IU9 with Karen Maccartney. I was wondering if you would be able to do a quick 10 minute Skype session with myself for the faculty at my school? The date is March 11 and the time would be at 8:20a.m. If you would be able/willing to share your experiences with Skype and how it can be useful to the teachers here at my school please email me at KMcdivitt@bradfordareaschools.org or call me at 814-368-3183 ext.4620
Thanks,
Kara McDivitt

MLK Day will be here soon. I am a very prolific poet who has recently written my 1000th poem and last year my poems went into 188 countries of the world. You can find some of these poems by Googling JOSIE'S POEMS and you will discover, in my Spiritual/Thinking Index a poem I've written especially for this day called "I Have a Dream". Perhaps your children might like to do a class performance of this poem, and I'd gladly select a winning performance from the finalists. I would be pleased to read them a poem myself, talk a little about myself, help them with writing etc. Come to my website and you can see, on my Main Poetry Index, details for booking this visit. It's not expensive.

"Greetings, I'm new here. I just saw the link on twitter. I have a guys read club. It is grade 4 boys. Any recommendations on skyping authors for our audience? We have shared quite a bit of nonfiction, currently we are reading some funny business stories. " Hello Emily, I would be interested in doing a visit to your reading club. I am a children's poet who has recently written over 1000 new poems. If you Google JOSIE'S POEMS you can see some of my work on my main website. You will see that my charges for a visit are not hard (£40 for a 40 minute visit) and I was going to suggest that perhaps your boys might like to learn a poem (perhaps one of my sports poems which boys like) and perform it well. I could judge the finalists and perhaps they could get a prize or a certificate from you. That would be fun. Then I would be glad to talk to them, read them a poem, answer their questions and perhaps tell them a little to get them going with writing a poem. If you Google JOSIE'S POEMS you will see my photo on my Welcome Page under my photo and you can email me from there. It isnice to meet you and where are you from? Josie Whitehead

I have been told that I can "share" a PowerPoint screen on my desktop while using Skype. The instructions I received say to click "Share" (next to the "Video" button in the upper corner of the Skype window).
I signed into Skype but couldn't see a "Share" button or a "Video" button anywhere. So first, I'd love it if someone could help me figure that out.
Second, I am looking for someone who would be willing to "test drive" this whole "share the desktop" thing with me before I try to do it during an author visit. Any takers?

"Scotti, did you ever learn how to do this? I need it soon! Best, Rachelle" Hi Rachelle, Yes, I have been sharing PowerPoint slides regularly on Skype, but I can only do it on my husband's computer, not mine. I don't understand why, unless it is simply that I have a lot more "stuff" on my PC than he does. What happens if I try to use my computer is that everything freezes. Anyway, this is what works for me: 1. Open Skype. Login with your credentials. 2. Under contacts, click on name of the user with whom you are going to share your computer screen. Note: You can’t share screen with any random person. The other user with whom you are sharing your screen must have Skype installed on his computer, and also, he must be in your contact list. 3. Go to Call-> Share Your Screen-> Share Full Screen.

Hi,
I'm in my final year of my teaching degree in Geelong, Australia on my final teaching placement. I have a Grade One class and would love to organise a Skype Meeting with an author for this inquisitive young group! If anyone is interested in a free (I am a poor uni student after all) meet the author session which could lead to a more in depth meeting if the school likes what they see it would be great if you could get in contact with me.
Thanks in advance, Chloe :)

Big thank you to the author Natasha Wing who Skyped with our younger students during our Bookfest week at the end of April 2012 at Shigawake-Port Daniel School in eastern Quebec, CA! Our students and teachers really appreciated her respect of the Quebec culture. Our younger students always enjoy her holiday books. And our students’ favorite book is “How to raise a dinosaur”, a cute fun book. After her presentation, many younger students asked for “How to raise a dinosaur” in the library. Thank you again Natasha and have a nice summer!

Big thank you to the author Marsha Diane Arnold who Skyped with our students during our Bookfest week at the end of April 2012 at Shigawake-Port Daniel School in eastern Quebec, CA! Our students and teachers really appreciated that Marsha spent her valuable time with us. Our students and teachers like her multicultural books very much especially “Heart of a tiger” which is a great book and we have learned a lot from it. The activity and discussion generated after we read the book also helped our grade 6 students prepare their provincial exam. Thanks again Marsha and have a nice summer!
